Frequently asked questions.
What is psychotherapy?
Therapy encompasses a wide range of interventions and treatments. Basically, it is a professional relationship focused on helping individuals address emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. Through confidential sessions, therapists provide support, guidance, and strategies to help clients understand their thoughts and feelings, overcome difficulties, and achieve personal growth. I will be able to provide more detailed explanations on the various types of interventions I utilize during our consultation call.
What happens during the consultation phone call?
I offer a free 10-15 minute consultation call before scheduling an appointment. During this call I will gather information regarding why you are seeking a therapist and other basic information. However, this consultation call is also for you to evaluate if you would feel as though Iām a good fit for you! Finding a therapist can be a daunting task and making sure that you feel comfortable is important for the treatment. During this call you may also ask questions to evaluate if we have a good therapeutic fit.
What happens during the first appointment?
The first appointment is an intake and lasts about 60-90 minutes. During the intake, I will ask a lot of questions regarding your current struggles and your background. The purpose of the intake is to gain a full picture of you and your symptoms to then generate an appropriate treatment plan tailored to you specifically. The intake also offers you time to evaluate if you would like to continue treatment based on our fit and your comfort level.
What is the therapy process like?
Therapy can vary from person to person and from therapist to therapist. In my practice, sessions are usually weekly (however they can be more or less frequent) and last around 45 minutes. During these sessions, there will be exploration into the various difficulties you face in your life while also bolstering your strengths. The specific interventions will vary based on your needs and background which means they are tailored to you. The goal of therapy is to help you understand yourself on a deeper level, utlize various coping skills, and feel empowered by your growth.
How much does therapy cost?
Fees vary based on the service provided. Unfortunately, the practice does not participate in any insurance providers at this time, however you may qualify for out of network reimbursement. When calling to schedule your first appointment, inform me that you are interested in out-of-network reimbursement.
Here are some questions to ask your insurance provider concerning your out of network benefits.
Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a licensed psychologist/mental health/behavioral health provider?
If so, what percentage of the session fee do you cover?
Does my coverage require preauthorization? If so, how do I get that preauthorization?
What is the deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?
How many sessions are covered, and in what time period?
Do I need to submit a form to request reimbursement?
If so, how do I access those form(s)?
How long does reimbursement take?
Is therapy private?
Therapy is completely confidential, meaning that I am required to not disclose any information regarding your sessions to anyone without your written consent. However, there are some rare exceptions to confidentiality, as mandated by law. For example, if there are concerns regarding the safety and/or abuse of children, elderly or disabled persons, a psychologist is mandated to inform appropriate agencies. In addition, if an individual appears to be a safety threat to themselves or others, a psychologist may have to breach confidentiality to ensure the safety of the client and/or others.
